[Review] Aztech Wireless-N Gigabit Router GR7000 - Humble, honest review
Link: Aztech Wireless-N Gigabit Router GR7000
will only try to add in things that hasn't been covered by other users... any repetition of comments, kindly pardon me
For those interested:
Both the basic and advanced page:
Mini example of my home layout and the connection strength with wall as partition(s):
Aztech 7000 - in GRAY
Dlink DIR-855 - in BLUE
Testing Devices:
Aztech 4 Port Gigabit High Speed Wireless-N (300 Mbps) Gigabit Router GR7000 (2T2R) - Single Band 2.4GHz
Dlink DIR-855 - Dual Band 5GHz (merely for comparison of signal strength)
Atheros AR5B93 Wireless Network Adapter
Intel(R) Centrino(R) Ultimate-N 6300 AGN
Pros:
- Basic Mode of configuration page is extremely useful for new users
- Wireless strength is a tad better than compared to my DIR-855
- 2 x USB Port for either storage device or USB Printer
- Plug & Play router
- A lot cooler than compared to my DIR-855
- The internal antennas works at top notch compared to the likes of Linksys.
Cons:
- Saving page takes forever to save (would prefer them to redesign the entire GATEWAY configuration page @ the Advanced Mode)
- A timer during “applying of settings” will be a lot more appreciative (wait without knowing when it will be done is not for me - is like waiting for buses, zzz)
- Couldn't map static IP to mac address
- Parental Control seems lacking (unable to edit, timing convention and etc)
- in all, the Advanced Mode isn't all "Advanced" at all
- DDNS failed to state if you've configured it correctly, password is not masked either
- Have to save every config per section (unable to configure everything at a go and save all at 1 go)
- Allows only 11b only, 11g only, 11b/g Mixed Mode & 11b/g/n Mixed Mode (no options to - select 11n mode or 11g/n Mixed Mode only)
- My Intel(R) Centrino(R) Ultimate-N 6300 AGN doesn't seem to work well with my Aztech Router - the speed fluctuates quite abit compared to my DIR-855
- USB ports merely supports either storage device and/or usb printer and thats all (would prefer it to have mobile usb dongle support as well)
Pending jobs doing:
Transfer rate from PC > Router > NAS is extremely slow - clocked at 1MB/s (DIR-855 gives me 6-10MB/s)<- believe something is wrong with my configuration, will check on it once i am free.
more will come once i am free..
Verdict:
The router is capable of doing what it is supposed to do. Clearly is meant more for amateurs that requires as minimal as possible knowledge in configuration of a router. Which without a doubt,Aztech fulfill that task almost perfectly.
Advanced users who believe that "customizing is KING" concept might well be better off looking at some other "more-well-equipped-firmware" router.
don't see the reason of doing this but since everyone is putting it... might as well:
MOL Express 16Mbps
