[Review] D-Link DNS-327L ShareCenter™+ 2-Bay NAS


It's been a while since I last used a D-Link NAS (after my DNS-343/DNS-323) for the last time. This D-Link DNS-327L is used with the intention of back up off from my Synology DS1512+ NAS

Specifications


  • Marvell ARM 88F6707, single-core ARMv7 processor from the Marvell Armada 370 series clocked at 1.2 GHz.
  • 512 MB of RAM.
  • Two easy-to-load hard drive bays accept any capacity 3.5” SATA internal drive
  • Hot-Swap feature enables replacing a failed hard drive without having to power down or reboot.
  • 1 x USB 3.0 port to connect additional external storage or multifunction printer
  • 1 x Gigabit Ethernet connectivity provides high speed network transfer

The hardware configuration of our D-Link DNS-327L consisted of the following configurations:


NAS Firmware: 1.03
RAID: JBOD
HDD: 2 x 4TB 7200RPM (Toshiba)
GbE: 1 x port
Router: ASUS RT N-56U

Cable: CAT 6





Conclusion:
At the price of SGD$159. This NAS comes with an amazing write speed!

Pros:
Relatively cheap NAS that packs with stunning read/write speed
Screw-less NAS design makes installing of NAS extremely easy
Extremely straightforward configuration
Formatting of new HDD takes less than a minute
Available data encryption
USB3.0 support


Cons:
Rsync is kinda tricky to setup across different brands of NAS without proper GUI configuration
Lack of HDMI/VGA connectivity output for direct video output from the NAS
Single Phase power available with no redundancies
Poor performance if data encryption is used
no SFTP support out of the box
Only 1 year of local warranty
Limited apps support
