[Review] Synology DS1512+ NAS
My personal review / experience with the following NAS
Brief Introduction
Picture obtained source
This enormous yet powerful NAS comes with a dual-core processor, hardware encryption engine, and flawless software integration, DS1512+ is a powerful, expandable 5-bay NAS server that brings outstanding speed and accelerated data encryption. The DS1512+ is aimed to scale as well, the DS1512+ can be equipped with up to 3GB of DDR3 RAM and host up to 60TB (4TB x 15) of raw capacity with two Synology DX510 units connected via its eSATA interface. The 5-bay option is optimized for people who prefers to have two disk failures with SHR2 (RAID6) instead of one.
With two LAN ports, the DS1512+ allows you to combine these ports with Link Aggregation Technology. Link Aggregation effectively increases the bandwidth of your NAS by aggregating multiple network interfaces and provides network redundancy in the event if either one the ports fails to work. However, this is not to be mistaken with MPIO. MPIO is another topic altogether which requires the stacking of iSCSI as well.

Conclusion:
The DS1512+ its easy to set up, use. Work faster than some of the other NASes available in the market.
Pros:
Ability to insert hard drives without using any screws (only applicable for 3.5" Disks)
Ability to expand from 1 Disk to 2, or more with a simple disk expansion.
Extremely easy configuration - Intuitive design that is simple to service by anyone
Strong application and firmware support from Synology
Strong GbE performance
Hot-swappable
Cons:
Disks took extremely long to format and use. (2 days)
Lack of HDMI/VGA connectivity output for direct video output from the NAS
Slow technical support from Synology for Singapore Region when issue arises. Expect to wait up to 5 days for responses.
